While in Yemen and Bahrain pro-democracy demonstrators were killed on the roads, IT companies from Germany, France and other EU countries are holding surveillance seminars for police and intelligence in Dubai.

On 21 February in the Yemeni city of Aden several demonstrators were killed by “security forces”. From Bahrain the same day came the news that the planned Formula 1 race must be postponed to November because of the mass protests. Just before it had even been deads in Bahrain, as special forces stormed the Pearl Square in the capital Manama.

But, in neighboring Dubai there was business as usual. In the noble JW Marriott Hotel representatives of European companies met with mostly high-ranking representatives of those police and intelligence forces from North Africa and the Middle East, which act with brutal violence against their own people.

With the release of their November 2010 Special Issue of Inspire magazine, a group claiming to be Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) has again succeeded in getting the entire global news media to uncritically relate their message. Every few months since the first release of the magazine in July 2010, the public is now subjected to a mass of uncritical stories that propagate predefined talking-points which are taken almost verbatim from one of two “monitoring groups” which actually profit from the sale of terrorist propaganda materials. One of those groups, the SITE Intelligence Group, was founded by the daughter of an executed Israeli spy. Joel Meares of The Columbia Journalism Review writes that when “Reading the latest terror reports it seems that any questions about the validity of Inspire have disappeared. The magazine once greeted with skepticism and perspective—to what extent one publication can speak for as disparate and fractured a community as the jihadists is always a question—is now being treated as the unquestioned and official spokes-journal of Al-Qaeda. And some close watchers of Al-Qaeda caution against the approach.”

Anthropologist Nina Jablonski travelled the globe to investigate why human skin has so many colours. Her study suggested that pigmentation did not evolve to prevent skin cancer, but primarily to help the human body maintain the right balance for reproduction and body development.

Focusing on ground-breaking research and personal accounts of scientists around the world, this documentary reveals that the evolution of skin colour is solely an adaptation to the environment. It drives home a powerful message: judging people on the basis of colour is not only morally unacceptable, it is scientifically wrong.
